The group gathered on a bright, sunny Saturday morning in the courtyard of the Domaine du Mas Rouge – in a beautiful location by the sea at Vic-La-Gardiole. After a visit of the vineyards and a taste of the grapes still on the vines, the guide, Jacky, took the group to the wine cellar and explained the various techniques in the production process. (What is the difference between a ‘viticulteur’ and a ‘vigneron’?!) This was followed by a wine-tasting session – giving the group the opportunity to taste Grenache, Chardonnay and Syrah, as well as the inevitable Muscat. Some members had their picnic at the Domaine while others headed to the nearby beach for theirs. Thanks go to Amor for the lovely photos!
The BCA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING was held immediately after the Newcomers’ Welcome Event at the Maison Pour Tous Frédéric Chopin. After various reports and discussions, voting took place and the new Board members were elected. Congratulations to you all!
The BCA Newcomers’ Welcome Event was held at a different venue this year - the Maison Pour Tous Frédéric Chopin. Potential members (who were not deterred by the heavy downpour minutes before!) were greeted at the entrance by Isabelle. Tables with information, refreshments and membership sign-up were set up on the first floor. Activity Leaders enthusiastically presented their activities and answered questions.
Thanks go to the Activity Leaders for their time and commitment to their groups, and also to Bella (for the lovely cake!), Lynn, Alicia and Karen for their invaluable help at the Event.
Once again, the BCA set up shop in the Place de Thessalie to attract new members to the Association. It was an extremely hot day and shade was rare, but our brave volunteers soldiered on. They put up (and dismantled) the stand, gave explanations and encouraged visitors to take photos of information sheets.
Thanks go Marc, Bella, Hilary, Claire, Dennis, Frances, Huguette, Barbara, Nathalie, Lynn, Evette, Isabelle, Fabrice, Joyce, Linda and George for their enthusiasm and commitment!
BCA members at the June Beach Picnic at Le Grand Travers. Some bathed in the warm, calm Mediterranean, others played Mölkky (the winner was Thea!) and some just enjoyed the company and good food (provided by the attendees).
BCA members boarded the Sub Sea Explorer on a very hot Saturday afternoon in Sète. The boat travelled along the canals, glided under some very low bridges and headed out to the Etang de Thau. Passengers could visit the underwater viewing area to see the oyster beds.
Thanks go to Isabelle (and Marc) for organising this successful and popular outing!
In front of a packed house at the Théâtre Gérard Philipe in the Maison Pour Tous Joseph Ricôme, the eleven players of the BCA Performance Group regaled the audience with portrayals of various forms of betrayal. The scenes were from William Boyd, John Le Carré, Harold Pinter and Alan Bennett. Under the direction of Karen, the members played their parts with great skill and conviction. Congratulations to all of you!
The first BCA Dance Party was launched at O’Sullivans on 1 June! Our brilliant musicians, Gary and George, entertained us with a medley of hits from the 60’s and 70’s – ending with the ‘BCA Blues’ song. The dancing started off slowly, but the pace soon picked up!! DJ Fabrice did a fantastic job of getting everyone on the dance floor with a terrific choice of music.
Special thanks go to Gary, George, Fabrice and to the new BCA members who initiated the idea and acted rapidly to bring about such a successful event!
The Annual BCA Pétanque Tournament was held today at Parc Rimbaud. Eight teams competed to win the coveted prizes. After the first round, the four winning teams continued to battle it out while the second-place teams also played for a prize.
Special Pétanque gadgets were awarded to the winning trio – Cécile, Isa and Sandy, and to the runners-up – Jeff and Chris. Coming in third were Frances and Jean-François. After the Tournament, there was a lively lunch in the picnic area.
