Activities

The BCA is a very active cultural association with plenty of activities designed to enable English-speakers to interact and share a common language in a fun and friendly way.

On this page, you will find our regularly-scheduled activities - along with a brief description of what each activity entails. Our programme is constantly evolving with special events such as wine-tastings, excursions and Christmas. We also host competitions and tournaments so keep an eye on our Calendar and Special Events page to make sure that you do not miss out! A new activity, 'STITCH & TIPS' was created this year and an additional weekday 'COFFEE CHAT' is now held in Café Joseph. All details are on the Calendar. Photos are also on the 'BLOG'

You do not need to be fluent in English to take part in our activities, although a higher level of English is required for the Performance Group and Play Reading.

Book Club

Our book club meets once a month at the MEL premises for an informal chat about literature and anything else that takes its fancy. At the beginning of the season, members choose the books to be read each month, all of which are in English, but not necessarily from anglophone countries; past years' selections have included writers from Africa, Australia, Canada, England, Scandinavia, Turkey and the United States.

Coffee Chat

Once a month, members meet up at a local café (usually near the Lez) and have a friendly catch-up and chat in English over a cup of tea or coffee, and perhaps even something sweet.

Français Pour Tous

Français Pour Tous meet-ups are all about learning or practising French in a fun way! Once a month, members take on a different fun challenge to put their linguistic skills to the test.

Game Day

A Saturday afternoon of friendly rivalry as members battle their way to become the champion of the various games on offer.

Group Walks

Why not take up this amazing opportunity to explore the areas around Montpellier with your fellow members? Once every 2 months, we take expeditions that last for up to 2 hours.
Our travels take us to parks, beaches, forests and beyond.

Movie Club

A group for cinephiles. Once a month, members get together to discuss, review and deconstruct a pre-selected film with opportunities for further chats all about the world of cinema. Films range from classics to the latest theatre releases.

Performance Group

This is our theatre group: a group that meets regularly to practise acting techniques and to rehearse a play with the aim of delivering a showstopping performance at the beginning of the summer. The sessions follow the school calendar.

Pétanque in the Parc

Each Tuesday morning, at Parc Rimbaud, join fellow members for a couple of pickup games of 'pétanque'. This is all about having fun so no need to worry if you have never even picked up a 'boule' before!

Play Reading Group

Once a month the Play Reading Group gets together to discover new plays by taking on roles and reading through a play together. Find your inner actor without the pressure of performing to a crowd.

Poetry Reading Group

Renowned African American poet Rita Dove once said "Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful". We couldn't agree more. The Poetry Reading group meets once a month in the MEL premises to share their favourite poems and to listen and explore poetry thanks to members' contributions.

Pub Night

A great opportunity to whet your whistle in good company. Members gather the first Thursday of each month at O'Carolans in the city centre for a chat over a pint (or whatever else takes your fancy).

Also, Pub Afternoon, which takes place at O'Carolans at 3:30 pm on the third Sunday of every month

Quiz Night

This is your chance to join a friendly team, pit your wits and have some fun at O'Sullivans on the Lez. The winners prepare the questions for the next quiz.
