The first BCA TECH TALK took place today in the 'Salle de Cours' at Espace Jacques 1er d’Aragon and covered the subject of Security. Members listened eagerly and attentively to Martin as he explained the pitfalls of the IT world. Martin gave advice on protecting passwords and avoiding various scams. He also suggested search engines and applications, and advised everyone to back up all information.
Thanks go to Martin for his great presentation and patient explanations.

“AND THEN THERE WERE … NINE!” The first ever BCA NEIGHBOURHOOD WALK set off from Jacou tram stop this afternoon. The group of 21 (and a dog) passed vineyards, parks and many newly-built houses and blocks of flats before following the ‘Salaison’ to Le Crès. Nine kms and 14,000 steps! Thank you to Huguette and John for organising this new activity. BCA held its first ever Fancy Dress Ball at O’Sullivans this evening. Non-members were invited to join BCA members in an evening of music, dance and fancy costumes. The panel of 5 judges selected the following winners who received an award certificate and a small gift:- Funniest costume: ‘Disco Man’ Christian Most creative costumes: Rosie and Linda Best couple: Sheri and Dennis Best group: Mystery, Inc. (Velma, Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne and Fred) Scariest Costume: Hilary Sexiest Costume: Karen Honorable mention: Fabrice Congratulations to the winners! Special thanks go to all those who organised this very successful event! Thank you to Amor for the photos. This year’s event was again held at “Le Cinq”. Sixty BCA members enjoyed the food, carol-singing, decorations and raffle. Mince pies and crackers added the final touch. Proceeds from the raffle will go to Restos du Coeur. Thank you to all those who made this evening such a success! The group gathered on a bright, sunny Saturday morning in the courtyard of the Domaine du Mas Rouge – in a beautiful location by the sea at Vic-La-Gardiole. After a visit of the vineyards and a taste of the grapes still on the vines, the guide, Jacky, took the group to the wine cellar and explained the various techniques in the production process. (What is the difference between a ‘viticulteur’ and a ‘vigneron’?!) This was followed by a wine-tasting session – giving the group the opportunity to taste Grenache, Chardonnay and Syrah, as well as the inevitable Muscat. Some members had their picnic at the Domaine while others headed to the nearby beach for theirs. Thanks go to Amor for the lovely photos! The BCA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING was held immediately after the Newcomers’ Welcome Event at the Maison Pour Tous Frédéric Chopin. After various reports and discussions, voting took place and the new Board members were elected. Congratulations to you all! The BCA Newcomers’ Welcome Event was held at a different venue this year - the Maison Pour Tous Frédéric Chopin. Potential members (who were not deterred by the heavy downpour minutes before!) were greeted at the entrance by Isabelle. Tables with information, refreshments and membership sign-up were set up on the first floor. Activity Leaders enthusiastically presented their activities and answered questions. Thanks go to the Activity Leaders for their time and commitment to their groups, and also to Bella (for the lovely cake!), Lynn, Alicia and Karen for their invaluable help at the Event. Once again, the BCA set up shop in the Place de Thessalie to attract new members to the Association. It was an extremely hot day and shade was rare, but our brave volunteers soldiered on. They put up (and dismantled) the stand, gave explanations and encouraged visitors to take photos of information sheets. Thanks go Marc, Bella, Hilary, Claire, Dennis, Frances, Huguette, Barbara, Nathalie, Lynn, Evette, Isabelle, Fabrice, Joyce, Linda and George for their enthusiasm and commitment! BCA members at the June Beach Picnic at Le Grand Travers. Some bathed in the warm, calm Mediterranean, others played Mölkky (the winner was Thea!) and some just enjoyed the company and good food (provided by the attendees). BCA members boarded the Sub Sea Explorer on a very hot Saturday afternoon in Sète. The boat travelled along the canals, glided under some very low bridges and headed out to the Etang de Thau. Passengers could visit the underwater viewing area to see the oyster beds. Thanks go to Isabelle (and Marc) for organising this successful and popular outing! |
